Cable Slide Bracelets

Sometimes called a cable bangle bracelet, the cable bracelet is made of a two strands of sturdy twisted wired cable that is somewhat flexible.

• The advantage of the cable bracelet is the ease of adding, removing, and rearranging slides on the bracelet. Almost all double strand cable bracelets made for slides have a clasp that can be easily removed from the cable without having to visit a jeweler. Yes, this means you can easily add your own slides. These clasps have special locking mechanisms that allow you detach the cable from the clasp and feed slides onto the cable bracelet.
  
  
  
• A disadvantage of the cable slide bracelet is that the twisted wire has a tendency to fray where the ends attach to the clasp with regular wear over time. Once the wire frays it cannot be repaired and must be replaced. This can become rather expensive if not under a guarantee. Cable slide bracelets are also not as flexible as the traditional chain slide bracelet.
  
  

There are several cable slide bracelets on the market. The better kind have a hinge on the clasp tongue that allows the cable more flexibility. Also more tightly wound cable is less likely to fray. The tighter wound cable is almost smooth to the touch. When looking to buy a cable slide bracelet I highly recommend the tighter cable and the hinged clasp tongue since this is more durable and will last much longer. The alternative rougher/stiffer cable without the hinge have a tendency to fray near the clasp tongue with regular wear.

When buying slides to put on your cable slide bracelet that are made for a chain slide bracelet it is often suggested to have the holes made slightly larger to give the slide more freedom on a cable slide bracelet since the cable is stiff. A local jeweler should be able to do this if needed.
